How to transfer supply between ships
A little explanation at first for this Tutorial would be in good order. After creating the Aircraft Carrier, Aircraft, Torpedo and bombs; I began to implement them within the EDEE game interface. It was at that point I discovered, my intended use for Raw Materials in the framework of the units newly created; was not going to work fluidly. I had realized to transport material was an all or nothing transfer. Let me explain further: A Liberty ship loaded with 75 Bombs and 75 Torpedos would sit adjacent to an Aircraft Carrier. If in the course of combat; the Player wanted to resupply his Carrier with more Torpedo supply for instance; the carrier would load only one type of munition over another. It would not stop loading until the Carrier was full or the Liberty ship ran out of that Munition type. This was very troubling. Because the Carrier would load more munitions than actually needed; and the excess material would take up Aircraft slots. So I thought this Problem over. I came up with several ideas. This is the concept I'm going to stick with unless I run into problems with it.
How to Transfer "Torpedo Raw Material" from one ship to another.
The scope of this Tutorial is to cover: A player gaining the necessary knowledge to understand how to transfer "The Raw Material" from one ship to another. Raw Material and Supply should be considered Synonymous for this Tutorial.
Included How to transfer supply between ships mission. Begin this mission after fully reading this Tutorial. Start up saved game: How_to_transfer_supply_between_ships.esg.
With loaded "How_to_transfer_supply_between_ships.esg" saved Game. This saved Game will allow you to practice material transfer on the high Seas. But for now; at first acquaint yourself with the units [Liberty Ship, Supply Ship, Light Supply Ship, Light Carrier and Carrier]
Highlight the Aircraft Carrier and open up the Units Tree on the far right hand side Menu Tab. Notice the total amount of Material in the Liberty Ship. In time we will manage the delivery of these materials to it's final destination; the Aircraft Carrier.
We'll begin at first with the Supply Ship. It can hold up to 75 units of Supply. Let's load the Supply ship by pressing "L" or by right clicking on the Supply Ship and selecting the "Load" option.
Notice the Supply Ship has loaded 75 Torpedo Supply.
Now we'll begin to load the Light Supply Ship. It can hold up to 35 units of Supply. Let's load the Light Supply ship by pressing "L" or by right clicking on the Light Supply Ship and selecting the "Load" option.
Notice the Light Supply Ship has loaded 35 Torpedo Supply.
Notice: After Removing 110 Torpedo Supply the Liberty Ship has a balance of 40 Torpedo Supply left in her cargo holds.
Move the Supply Ship up to the Aircraft Carrier. It can hold up to 150 units of Supply. As Aircraft Also use this ship we would not want to load over 75 units of munition onboard. Let's load the Aircraft Carrier by pressing "L" or by right clicking on the Light Supply Ship and selecting the "Load" option.
Note: Due to EDEE mechanics; it takes 1 game turn to Begin to load the Aircraft Carrier; you will need to wait one turn due to the Supply Ships movement.
Notice the Aircraft Carrier has loaded 75 Torpedo Supply.
Now Repeat this procedure moving the Light Supply Ship to the Light Aircraft Carrier. Let's load the Light Aircraft Carrier by pressing "L" or by right clicking on the Light Aircraft Carrier and selecting the "Load" option. Notice the Light Aircraft Carrier has loaded 35 Torpedo Supply.
Note: Due to EDEE mechanics; it takes 1 game turn to Begin to load the Light Aircraft Carrier; you will need to wait one turn due to the Light Supply Ships movement.
If you can manage to endure this process; a new dimension of EDEE has now opened up for you. Hope you enjoy this feature as much as I do.
Admittedly this feature is not for all Folks; some prefer an easy game play experience. As such; I gave the Torpedo plane a ranged Fire capability. Only trick is the Torpedo plane should not move on the prior turn to fire this turn.
